The Pig Frog, Lithobates grylio, is a common amphibian inhabitant of the Okefenokee Swamp. My daughter and I learned how common – and how loud they are – as we attempted to sleep in our tent at the Maul Hammock overnight shelter! The cricket frogs were a constant, high soprano in the overnight frog chorus, while the Pig Frog contributed to the low, measured bass. Thankfully the chorus died in fervor after midnight allowing us some sleep!
