Two years ago today I was excited to photograph my first River Otters within the boundaries of the Okefenokee Refuge… two of them!
I launched that morning from Kingfisher Landing and paddled southward through Durdin Prairie and back. Along the way in the narrow channel, I saw a few splashes up ahead and got quite excited as the day had been somewhat slow for wildlife. Upon seeing my canoe, one quickly disappeared into the Maidencane. But the braver of the two swam alongside my canoe for at least a quarter mile, popping up nearby from time to time to check me out.

Hi William.
As usual, a well-written and photographed article.
I’m impressed that one would swim that long beside your boat.
A nice experience.
God Bless!
