As my daughter and I paddled up to the Maul Hammock Shelter on day one of our three day paddle through the heart of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, we were greeted by a medium-sized alligator near the camping platform. The gator watched us as we set up camp, no doubt hoping for a handout when we began our evening meal.

  1. Nice catch of a local 😄😄. FYI, it’s our turn to fight to protect the nearby wildlife areas. I believe you were successful. A plan has been submitted to run a pipeline right by the Donnelley and Bear properties and through 4 Hole Swamp the oldest Cypress/Tupelo swamp in the US. They just keep trying to end the natural lands.
